The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Song
This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from Critical Role, revealed a new opening credits. It features the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching personal histories for characters including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.
All in all, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that something was lost in the song choice.
The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by artist the talented musician. This piece from the official score of the same name, the second one released by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. This track that excites you before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its mood is a little off.
Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have a few surprises and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to get to know the characters of the second series, the original episodes are available on Spotify and the video site.
