The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team might be building a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable if you're playing as a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
