Learning centers in northern Nigeria have often been targeted for armed groups

Weapon-carrying attackers have killed a teacher and seized a minimum of 25 learners in an assault against a girls' secondary school in the northwestern part of Nigeria, police reports indicate.

The criminal group stormed the comprehensive secondary school for girls in Kebbi State's Maga area at roughly 4 in the morning local time on Monday, officials stated.

The attackers "confronted officers on duty in a gun duel" before breaching the school's outer barrier and taking the pupils captive from their dormitory, according to a statement.

A school employee was lost their life while safeguarding the students. An additional employee received firearm injuries and is now receiving treatment.

Observers recounted a large group of attackers, known locally as bandits, who appeared discharging weapons intermittently to generate terror.

Area inhabitants disclosed to media that the armed men then led a number of girls into surrounding rural areas.

The police said they had deployed "additional police tactical units, alongside military personnel and community security teams" to the area.

A organized locating and saving mission is underway in surrounding forests and believed flight corridors.

In the past few years, schools in northern Nigeria have regularly come under attack for armed groups, who routinely perform seizures to seek ransom payments or leverage deals with the government.

The assault in Kebbi State underscores the continuing safety emergency troubling the locality, causing relatives in Maga in a situation of anxious fatigue as they expect and desire their children's secure homecoming.

Protection challenge in Nigeria's northern territories has worsened considerably in the last several months, with educational institutions suffering the most of the unrest.
