The Manager's Position on The Scottish Club

The Ipswich boss referred to Celtic as "an enormous soccer institution" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with the Championship side.

The mid-thirties assumed control of Ipswich in 2021 and guided the team to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only a handful of victories last campaign as they were demoted back to the Championship and they currently sit twelfth place in England's second tier.

"There have been any of those conversations," the English capital native ex- Northern Ireland young player said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any part of my focus is this week.

"I possess a special position here at a remarkable team. And we're at a really important phase of the campaign. Anything outside of that hasn't reached my radar."

Background and Contractual Aspects

Reports indicate that McKenna would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"During youth, we all have our preferences," he said when asked about these. "I don't think all people has to go around and declare what they were, but naturally it's a massive sports organization."

The coach signed a new multi-year deal in 2024 and was questioned about his reported £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he responded. "I'm unaware what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you regardless!

"I tackle this job like I will remain Ipswich manager indefinitely. I understand that's not always going to be the situation, but I'll always do my best as long as I remain in position."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker played for Celtic on loan from the Magpies in 2005, but the ex- Wales striker is inclined to complete the ongoing global tournament qualification, a stance that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are currently third in their qualifying group behind leaders the Red Devils and second-placed North Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and their rivals in next month would secure their place in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually guaranteed of reaching that stage, due to a successful Nations League performance, even if they fail to finish as their group runners-up.

Given his current stance, Bellamy, whose contract expires after the European Championship, would be unavailable until following the qualifying matches at the earliest.
