Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the hospital, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police released video stills earlier this week of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries according to reports.

The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning in the area between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate during the current season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in March and was expected to be a key part of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
