An extensive two-month voyage circling the Land Down Under has been cancelled days after the death of an older woman who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the party for a break. The vessel departed without her and went back after some time after the crew became aware the woman was not present.

An extensive search operation discovered her remains the following day.

Officials are looking into the incident, in coordination with police and the state coroner.

Head of the shipping company stated that guests and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and earlier technical problems".

In a statement, he added that passengers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also released an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Master" prohibiting any further travelers from boarding the ship.

The official said that they would visit the ship in the port city upon its return.

Timeline of Events

The ship originally sailed from the coastal city on October 24th, and was merely two days into the expedition at the point of the elderly woman's demise. Lizard Island was the first stop on the voyage.

Guests on the vessel - who typically pay large sums of dollars to take part in the expedition - were transported there for a day trip with the possibility of trekking or underwater exploration.

Family Reaction

The child of the deceased woman said that her family was "stunned and distressed that the liner left Lizard Island after an planned outing without my parent".

In her statement, she characterized her mother as an "energetic elderly person" who was a member of a walking group.

"From the little details we have been informed, it looks that there was a failure of responsibility and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She further stated that she desired the examination would be able to identify what "the organization should have undertaken that might have preserved Mother's existence".

"We understand from the investigators that it was a exceptionally warm period, and she took sick on the hill climb," she explained.

"She was asked her to head down, alone. Then the boat left, seemingly without doing a passenger count.

Operator Response

In a statement, the CEO affirmed that the organization was "working closely with officials to support their examination".
