Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.
A high-ranking political figure said the attack made him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
