Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.

Player Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
