Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Loss

Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his position after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from management,” the coach remarked.

“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the trust. But I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”

Recurring Problems and Player Response

The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.

“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period like this with results this poor.”

He finished, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to compete.”

“We will attempt to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”

“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
