Administration Accused of Assault on Free Speech Following British Journalist Detained
A leading Muslim civil liberties association has accused the current administration of a clear affront to freedom of expression” after national border officials detained UK reporter Sami Hamdi this past Sunday.
This body stated that Hamdi was held at San Francisco International airport because of criticizing the Israeli continuing military operations in Gaza. The journalist is part of a group of people who have been arrested and removed by federal agents for expressing pro-Palestinian views.
DHS officials said that the journalist’s travel visa had been canceled, and that he was in custody “awaiting deportation.”
Immigration Authorities Holds British Journalist After Criticism of Israeli Policies
UK reporter Sami Hamdi was reportedly held Sunday by border officials at San Francisco international airport, and advocates claims that action is clear retaliation for the Islamic political commentator’s comments of Israeli actions while visiting the United States.
An announcement from the group described it was “an obvious insult to freedom of expression” to arrest Hamdi for condemning the Israeli continuing military operations in the Gaza region while he was involved on a speaking tour. An administration official commented in a additional announcement that Hamdi is facing deportation.
