In a surprising collaboration that breaks conventional predictions, Ubisoft has announced an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual Thanksgiving event operates from November 25 through December 22, offering free bonus story content for Shadows players.

Strange Questline Revealed

According to the formal announcement, "An unusual meeting draws characters Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh quest, where whispers of banned rituals and terrifying metamorphoses echo through the shadows." The plot introduces a "strangely garbed woman named Ada" who tasks the characters with traveling into the Gemstone Grotto—a important location from Attack on Titan—to save her friend from a clandestine sect.

The adventure focuses on "strange trials and a fearsome adversary" and is available to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Iconic Places and Metamorphoses

The teaser highlights the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was earlier where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through eras. The trailer finishes with a powerful moment showing a character, likely the hostage, transforming into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Prizes and Extra Features

Players who finish the mission will obtain an exclusive katana together with numerous artifacts hidden throughout the area in secret chests. The update also features purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

• Titan-themed costume for Yasuke
• Mikasa outfit for Naoe
• Unique implements
• Survey Corps mount

Third Free Story Update

This release also introduces the game's latest free story addition, titled "The Mystery." This playful quest pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they trade distinctive skills: Naoe introduces a performative interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-lethal stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "A Puzzlement" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may ultimately shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.

Earlier Japanese Animation Collaborations

This represents scarcely the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with famous anime franchises. The series earlier showcased a 2020 collaborative story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla unofficially included a quest that obviously referenced the famous series One-Punch Man.
